Oct. 26: Leaders who quit the Telugu Desam and joined megastar Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam with much fanfare are not feeling so happy now. Except the former Chodavaram MLA, Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao, none of the defectors have been given any importance in the new party. In fact, many of them do not even get the opportunity to meet the party top brass (Chiranjeevi and his brothers) when they visit the city.
The recent meeting held by Chiranjeevi’s brother, Nagababu, created much bitterness among the top leaders such as former Pendurthy MLA, Mr P.G.V.R. Naidu (Ganababu) and the former TD urban unit president, Dr C.D.A. Zahir Ahmad. Leaders of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam attended the meeting, which was called to review the ground situation.
"Ganababu and Zahir Ahmad found it difficult to even enter the hall which was packed with Nagababu’s fans," said a party member. Somehow they found their way in, but Nagababu invited only Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao to share the dais, ignoring others. Many leaders who joined the party before Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao felt slighted. Mr Ganababu and Mr Zahir Ahmad were close confidantes of TD chief, Mr Chandrababu Naidu, and were always by his side.
"We feel sorry for them," said a TD leader. "They made a big mistake by leaving Telugu Desam and joining Praja Rajyam." Meanwhile, Mr Vasupalle Ganesh Kumar of the Vizag Defence Academy, who erected the second-tallest Ganesh statue in the state and decorated the pandal with PR and Chiranjeevi pictures, has now quit the party and joined the TD. "The PR has no organisational structure and this is causing resentment among senior leaders," he said. NGO activists, Mr Panchakarla Ramesh, Mr K. Aachyuta Rao and Mr P.R.S. Naidu also have decided to bid adieu to Chiranjeevi
